V Groove

|
Year: 2006

Dr. Harris demonstrates a variation on “divide and conquer” phacoemulsification in which a “V groove” is sculpted into the lens instead of the traditional cross. The two grooves are cracked to divide the lens into three pieces. The central triangular piece can be removed easily, liberating the two remaining pieces. This technique does not require hydrodissection or lens rotation, so it works well in the setting of capsulorrhexis complications or loose zonules.
