Dr. Spirn graduated cum laude from Cornell University then received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his internship at New York University and his residency at Emory University, where he was Co-Chief Resident. He then completed his vitreoretinal fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital, where he was awarded The William Tasman, MD Outstanding Fellow Recognition Award.

Dr. Spirn has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters on vitreoretinal diseases and is a co-investigator for several trials and studies on diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, and uveitis.
